What You Can Do To Lower the Risk of Recurring Hernias
Continue below to read the different ways we lower the risk of recurrence.
4 Ways We Lower Risk of Recurrence:
1. Our Highly Experienced Surgical Team
The odds of your hernia recurring are influenced by the number of cases a surgeon or surgical centre has had. Essentially, the more experienced a surgeon and team are, the lower the risk of recurrence is.
Hernia Clinic Hampshire’s Consultant Surgeon has repaired around 2,000 hernias, including both male and female patients, young and old, and with varying health conditions.

2. Our Bespoke Rehabilitation Exercise Programme
Our work to prevent hernia recurrence continues even after the surgery itself. Once you book surgery with us, you will be given access to a unique exercise programme which guides you through exercises to help your wound repair and recovery.
We worked with patients to develop this programme for patients. It was designed to help restrengthen your core as a means of protection against recurrence and improving long term comfort of the affected area.

3. The Mesh We Use
Another way we lower the risk of hernia recurrence is through the type of mesh we use. Hernia surgery using a special mesh has a much lower risk of recurrence than suture only repair.
We understand some patients worry about the use of a hernia mesh and hope to help you understand the benefits of the type of mesh we use. We use a self-fixating mesh for open repairs.
The mesh that we use embeds well with the surrounding tissues to distribute tension evenly across the affected area and generates strong tissue to heal the abdominal wall. This special mesh helps to create a comfortable and high-quality repair.
4. Choosing the Right Technique
Our expert Consultant Surgeon will work with you to understand your particular situation, symptoms and needs. Depending on the type of hernia you have, its size, and whether or not you have had a previous repair, different techniques might be better for you.
With local anaesthetic hernia repairs, one factor that can help prevent hernia recurrence is that we test that your repair is strong during surgery.
There’s no one size fits all – our highly experienced surgeon discusses and devises a bespoke treatment plan with you and for you.
Our passion for providing excellent, patient-focused care drives everything we do. From patient reviews and testimonials to our Clinical Outcomes questionnaires, we constantly monitor our patients’ results and consider their feedback in order to continuously improve our service.
